Conference and Workshop on “Leveraging Data to Enhance Public Policies”
Rapid expansions in data science technologies and data availability are transforming the economy while providing new tools for economic analysis. The conference on ``Harnessing Data Science Tools to Enhance Public Policies" will expose researchers, policymakers, data practitioners, business leaders, and students to state-of-the-art quantitative tools to analyze vast amounts of economic data. The aim of this activity is to empower participants to make informed decisions based on evidence and trends. Additionally, this activity will provide a platform for networking, learning, and building collaboration to address sub-Saharan Africa's development challenges collectively.
The two-day workshop on Data will take place on June 17 and 18, 2024 and expose policymakers, scholars, and students to state-of-the-art quantitative tools to analyze vast amounts of economic data and empower them to make informed decisions based on evidence and trends. The activity will conclude with a conference on June 19, 2024, and will consist of inspiring keynote addresses, thought-provoking panels, and limitless high-value networking. The conference's theme is ``Harnessing Data Science Tools to Enhance Public Policies and Boost Private Sector and Entrepreneurship,” and conference speakers will cover the following topics:
- Data Science and its Application in Economics, Entrepreneurship, and Business
- Leveraging data for the informal sector
- Data Science, fairness, incentives, and collective decisions
- Data and human capital
- Leveraging data to address macroeconomic and financial issues
- Data and effective public policies: Opportunities and Challenges in Africa
The conference will also include exhibition sessions allowing early startup companies and students working on innovative big data technologies to showcase their projects and receive feedback.
Presentations will be in French or English. To submit a paper, fill out the form available through this ONLINE SUBMISSION LINK. The submission portal will be closed by April 19, 2024. Participation is free, but online registration is mandatory to attend the conference and workshop. To register, please fill out the form available at https://ermass.org/. Places are limited. The registration portal will be closed on May 20, 2024, and registered individuals will be notified about their status by June 1, 2024, Breakfast, coffee breaks, refreshments, and lunch will be provided to all presenters and attendees during the workshop. Due to severe budget constraints, any airfare, lodging, or transportation must be self-funded. The three best doctoral papers will receive a small amount of financial and research support for thesis completion.
